The cellars

The Staatsweingut is part of, and located within, the Staatliches Weinbauinstitut Freiburg, the government research and development institution for the wine industry. This structure gives us a unique opportunity to bring cutting-edge techniques and equipment to bear on our traditional business. We still use the 1847 massive oak barrels and cellars of the Blankenhornsberg, alongside modern machinery and techniques for juice extraction in our white wines. The red wines are fermented in top-notch temperature-controlled mash tanks, and our red VDP.GROSSES GEWÄCHS and VDP.ERSTE LAGE wines are matured in oak barrique barrels.
